Russia’s largest retailer X5 said that like-for-like sales rose 11% year-on-year in 2006 in a preliminary sales release today (18 January).


The retail group owns grocery chains Pyaterochka, which saw sales increase 9%, and Perekrestok, where sales were up 14%.


Throughout the year, X5 opened around 126,000 square metres of selling space, bringing its net selling space to approximately 466,000 square metres as of 31 December. Between October and December X5 opened 33 Pyaterochka and 27 Perekrestok stores.


As of 31 December, 2006, X5 operated 451 company-managed Pyaterochka stores and 168 Perekrestok stores, including 12 hypermarkets.
