Kraft Foods has revealed that it plans to cut almost 300 jobs from its Cadbury plant in the South African city of Port Elizabeth.
The company told just-food that after a consultation process with employee bodies, it has reached an agreement that will see 293 employees at the facility take voluntary redundancy.

A spokesperson for Kraft’s operations in South Africa said the workers affected have included staff “from management to shop floor employees,” she said.
She attributed the cuts to the “increasingly competitive market” and said the moves are “essential for the plant to remain sustainable”.
“Our ultimate aim is for the Port Elizabeth factory to become a consumer-driven chocolate manufacturing centre of excellence in the Southern Africa region. We believe we can achieve this through creating an environment that enables a performance-driven and values-led culture in which talented and committed people excel,” she said.
