Workers at South African grocery retailer Pick n Pay are set to go on strike on Friday (29 October), as they seek higher wages, union officials said.

Some 27,000 workers, led by the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union (SACCAWU) are set to go on strike again as they continue to seek a 12% wage increase and a 10% discount on basic food products.

The dispute began in December last year and led to a four-day strike last month.

Pick n Pay revealed last week that its first-half profits fell 12%. The retailer had not responded to requests for comment as just-food went to press.
