The government has endorsed a bill in a cabinet meeting today (19 January) that prohibits TV advertising for “high-calorie, low-nutrition” foods for two hours, from 5pm to 7pm, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

After the measure goes into effect, the government plans to evaluate the effectiveness of the ban in reducing child obesity rates and reflect the results on similar regulations in the future, according to Korea’s Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs.

It is understood the bill will take effect from this weekend.
