Public health officials in Canada have issued a health warning after 44 people were struck down with salmonella poisoning.

The salmonella outbreak has been linked to exposure to frozen raw breaded chicken products.
The cases of illness are in four provinces, with 28 in Ontario, 12 in Quebec and two each in the provinces of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Twelve people have been hospitalised. No deaths have been reported.

Individuals are reported to have become sick between 7 February and 23 May. Investigations so far have named exposure to frozen raw breaded chicken products as the source, though no companies have been named.

The government said it would continue to update Canadians as new information becomes available.
