Samworth Brothers, the UK food group, has acquired Tesco’s former Euphorium bakery plant in Weybridge after the retail giant decided to sell the Euphorium business.

Tesco has offloaded the Euphorium assets in two deals – one with Samworth for the Weybridge site and the other with foodservice operator Soho Coffee, which will take on four Euphorium stores and a factory in north London.

“We are delighted to be welcoming the former Euphorium Weybridge bakery into the Samworth Brothers family of businesses,” Samworth Brothers told just-food. “The acquisition will add to our already extensive food-to-go offering and significantly extend our ambient capability. As a business, we have ambitious growth plans and this is a strong addition to the portfolio. It is also a business with an absolute dedication to product quality, customer service and innovation so a great fit with our own values at Samworth Brothers.”

Asked what plans Samworth Brothers had for the plant and whether staff levels would be maintained at the site, the company added: “The acquisition has only just been announced today so it is too early for any comment on future operational aspects.”
