Sartori Cheese, a fourth-generation family-run artisanal business, has acquired fellow US company Rumiano Cheese.
The financial details of the deal remain under wraps.
Established in 1919, California-based Rumiano Cheese specialises in producing pasture-raised organic cheese and butter. Its namesake products are distributed in all 50 US states, as well as in Mexico and Asia.
Owner Baird Rumiano said in a statement: “As a fellow family-owned business, Sartori shares our core values and commitment to quality, tradition, and responsible stewardship.
“We’re confident this next step in our journey will bring many exciting opportunities to our team, our local farmers, our customers, and to the communities we’ve proudly served for generations.”
Wisconsin-based Sartori Cheese described the acquisition as “strategic”, stating it unites “two heritage brands” with a “shared passion” for crafting “exceptional” cheese.

Sartori said his company will retain Rumiano’s cheesemaking division in Crescent City, California, as part of the deal.
However, Masters Gallery Foods, a supplier of cheese for private-label retail and foodservice, has purchased Rumiano’s converting and distribution facilities in Willows, California.
In a separate statement, Jeff Gentine, Masters Gallery Foods president and CEO, said: “We are committed to advancing the Willows operation, as originally envisioned by the Rumiano family, and building upon the legacy of what has been established here since 1919.
“Our goal is to use this facility as a platform for Western growth, while positively impacting the city of Willows and the nearly 200 employees we now welcome into the Masters Gallery family.”
