France’s Savencia Fromage & Dairy has acquired US-based organic cheese maker Rogue Creamery.
Rogue Creamery, located in Oregon, was founded in 1933 and specialises in the manufacture of blue cheeses. The company will continue to operate as a separate Public Benefit Corporation under president David Gremmels.
Dominique Huth, the chief executive of Savencia’s US cheese arm, said the tie-up, for which no financial details or terms were disclosed, will help strengthen the listed company’s brand offering of Dorothy’s, St. André, Etorki, and Esquirrou cheeses.
Rogue Creamery’s Gremmels said: ”We are excited to join the Savencia family which offers great opportunities to further fuel our growth. Our commitment to organic cheese of uncompromising quality will remain unchanged.”
Savencia claims to be the number two French cheese group and number four in the world. For the year ended in December, the company booked an annual turnover of EUR4.85bn (US$5.61bn) and net income of EUR93m, down from EUR104.5m a year earlier.
The move for Rogue Creamery follows an announcement in March that Savencia planned to buy South Korea distributor Bake Plus and that it had received competition approval for the acquisition.
