US dairy group Schreiber Foods has revealed plans to invest $211m at its cheese production plant in Carthage in Missouri.

Schreiber Foods, which is headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin, is known for producing cream cheese, natural cheese, processed cheese, yogurt, and beverages.

The project includes the construction of a new 168,000 ft2 production facility, which will be equipped with “state-of-the-art” technology.

This expansion is expected to create 150 new jobs.

In a statement, Schreiber Foods said the project will enhance its process-cheese capabilities in the US and support its “ongoing efforts” to partner with customers and meet “increasing demand”.

The construction of the new facility is set to begin in January, with Schreiber Foods planning to complete the project in 2027.

Schreiber Foods president and CEO Ron Dunford said: “This expansion underscores our commitment to innovation, quality, our customers and the Carthage community, as we work to do good through food in everything we do.”

Since establishing a presence in Carthage in 1950, the company employs more than 1,300 people across its existing facilities.

Additionally, Schreiber Foods said it is exploring options to further expand the project’s scope.

With a global presence spanning five continents, the group employs over 10,000 people and generates annual sales exceeding $7bn.

According to Rabobank’s annual ranking of the world’s largest dairy companies by revenue, Schreiber Foods is the 12th biggest. In the Dutch bank’s latest poll, the company moved up four spots from 16th.
