Shore the Scottish Seaweed Company has launched a plant-based range of pesto and tapenade after receiving GBP1.7m (US$2.1m) in investment.
Based in the Scottish town of Wick in Caithness, Shore is owned by private company New Wave Foods Ltd. located in Inverness, and manufactures seaweed products such as crisps and snack clusters made up of puffed rice and sesame seeds.

Founded in 2016, Shore has attracted equity investment from the Scottish Investment Bank (SIB) and “several” private investors, according to a statement from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the Scottish government’s economic and community development agency, which provided a grant to the company as part of the financial package.
The seaweed firm’s new range of pesto and tapenade has been rolled out under the Sea Kitchen brand. Shore’s crisps and clusters are stocked in Morrisons and Whole Foods Market, but HIE did not disclose the retailers for the new launch.
