A subsidiary of Singapore-based conglomerate Fraser & Neave is building an “integrated” food and beverage manufacturing facility, which will also serve as an innovation centre.

F&N Foods is spending SGD80m (US$59m) on the 375,000 sq ft plant housed on the north of the island state in Tuas, across the strait from Malaysia, and is due for completion late in 2021, according to a statement.

The facility will “expand F&N Singapore’s capabilities across all aspects from production and warehousing to research and development, and enable F&N to consolidate most of its Singapore non-alcoholic beverages operations under one roof, thereby achieving operational synergies and economies of scale”, the statement read.

In the food segment, F&N produces fresh and canned milk under brands such as Magnolia and Farmhouse, soya beverages, nutritional snack bars and yogurt.

F&N describes the plant as a “smart factory” that will support its ambitions to become the leading food and beverage manufacturer in Asean. The facility will also serve to strengthen the company’s research and development capabilities.

Koh Poh Tiong, chairman of F&N’s executive board committee, said: “Our investment in this new facility marks ours confidence in Singapore’s future, as well as its ability to meet rising global and local challenges. This investment also affirms our belief that Singapore has the best resources, infrastructure and talent to sharpen F&N’s competitive edge locally as well as in the international marketplace.”
