The Slovak Republic has passed an amended law regulating the relationship between suppliers and retailers, in order to further “protect” the country’s manufacturers.

The initial law went into force at the beginning of this year. 


The latest piece of legislation was welcomed by the country’s food makers but once again criticised by retailers.


“Business-to-business relations should not be regulated by states,” secretary general of the Slovak Retail and Travel Industry Association Jozef Orgonás told just-food.


Orgonás added that the amendment is aimed at limiting the influence of multinational chains and contradicts EU rules.
