The outlet, Tesco’s 70th store in Slovakia, is 300 square metres and offers 2,800 different products, a spokesperson for the company told just-food.

“It is located in the heart of the community in a residential area of Bratislava – offering local people an excellent range of fresh food within walking distance of their homes.  This is great in terms of convenience, and also allows customers to leave their cars at home if they want to,” the spokesperson said.

Typically, Tesco operates hypermarket-style outlets in Slovakia. The company said that expanding its number of formats is part of its strategy to grow market share.

“Being multi-format is part of our international strategy, as no single format can reach the whole market,” the spokesperson added.
