Cadbury has started consultations with workers in Spain over a proposal to close its Trident chewing gum production facility in Barcelona.

“At this stage the closure is only a proposal, we have just started the consultation process,” a spokesperson for the group told just-food today (2 April).
The facility employs 170 people, although the spokesperson emphasised that it is too early to say how many jobs are at stake.
“We have an efficiency agenda. In June 2007 we launched our Visions to Action drive and part of that is looking at the efficiency side of things. We have been reviewing capacity and efficiencies of scale and… are considering the closure for those reasons.”
The closure would not result in a drop in Trident production, the spokesperson added. Under the proposal, Cadbury would transfer production to other facilities in Europe.
