Spanish supermarket chain Gadisa is to open between 15 and 20 new supermarkets throughout Spain in 2003, and will upgrade another 15 stores, as part of its expansion plan.

At the end of 2001, Gadisa operated 210 supermarkets, as well as 191 franchised stores and 78 associated stores. Most of the company’s stores are currently within the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, reported the Spanish News Digest.

Gadisa, which operates supermarkets under the Gadis, Haley and San Luis banners, a fastfood chain named Manduka and wholesale centres under the name Cash IFA, posted net profit of €13m (US$13.8m) for 2002.
