Spanish food firm Grupo SOS has relaunched is SOS steamed rice product, the company announced today (18 June).

SOS, which also owns the Bertolli and Carbonell olive oil brands, said the product was being introduced in a “new and convenient format”.


“With this relaunch, Grupo SOS wants to get closer to consumers, offering an easy to prepare rice without being an expert in cooking,” the company said.


The relaunch comes at a turbulent time for SOS, with speculation surrounding possible investment in the company.


Reports in Spain claimed yesterday that SOS chairman Mariano Pérez Claver had met with US investment fund Overture Acquisition to discuss a deal.

An SOS spokesperson, however, refused to comment on the reports, saying only that the group had appointed Credit Suisse to “manage all possible investor interest”.


Credit Suisse is also handling plans for a EUR200m (US$279m) share issue, which was prompted by a share scandal that saw the departure of SOS’s chairman and CEO, two men now facing legal action from their former employer.
