Unilever has sold its remaining Spanish frozen fish brands to French food group Bonduelle in a move that, the company told just-food, is separate from its intended sale of all European frozen food businesses, including the Birdseye and Igloo brands.
In 2001, Unilever sold its Spanish frozen vegetables business to Bonduelle. “At that time,” Unilever’s Gerbert Van-Genderen- Stort explained, “we agreed that when we came to sell the remaining Spanish frozen food units Bonduelle would be given the opportunity to make the first bid.”
The company refused to reveal the sale price, but did confirm that the transaction was worth “several million euros”.
As to the sale of Unilever’s other European operations, Van-Genderen- Stort remained relatively guarded. “We are still busy with the sale process,” he explained, “it is progressing well and when there is more to report we will do so.”
