Spanish meat firm Incarlopsa has acquired a majority stake in US start-up Acornseekers, which produces Iberian ham.
As part of what it says is a multi-year “internationalisation strategy”, Icarlopsa snapped up a 67% share in the Texas-based company for an undisclosed sum.

Acornseekers was founded four years ago by Sergio Marsal and Manuel Murga, who will remain shareholders of the business, according to a statement from Incarlopsa.
The Spanish firm added that Acornseekers is the first company outside of Spain to import Iberian pigs and has a business network within the growing North American market.
As its name suggests, the black-hooved Iberian pigs are reared under free-range conditions and fed with acorns to produce the Spanish delicacy Jamón ibérico, according to the company’s website.
Incarlopsa chief executive Clemente Loriente said: “We have acquired a majority stake because, for the future development of the company, it is essential to grow in the international business – guaranteeing quality and food security – within a context of increasing competitiveness and globalisation, installing ourselves in the most important markets in the world.”
