Earlier this year, Nestlé said it was in “intensive negotiations” to sell the Conow plant, including the on-site workforce.

Approximately 70 jobs at the facility will be retained as a result of the purchase.

Sprehe makes fresh and frozen meat products at 12 sites, supported by a workforce of 3,500.

In a statement, Albert Sprehe, managing partner of Sprehe, said: “We look forward to manufacturing our products together with the workforce in the future, successfully operating the site and growing together.”

The Conow facility produces items under the Maggi and Garden Gourmet brands. Production of the Garden Gourmet Vuna faux tuna, Maggi liquid bouillon and Maggi Texicana salsa will be relocated to other, unnamed European sites.

Nestlé has 17 locations in Germany, including more than ten production sites, and employs over 6,000 people.

In March, alongside the announcement of the sale of the Conow site, Nestlé also outlined plans to close its Neuss plant in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia by mid-2026.

In both cases, the company attributed the downsizing to “declining volumes and overcapacity”, driven by growing “price sensitivity” among consumers and “rising costs.”

The Neuss facility produces Thomy oil, mayonnaise, and mustard in various packaging formats and employs around 145 people.

In April last year, the company announced plans to cut dozens of jobs at its German head office in Frankfurt.
