A representative for Ceylon Biscuit Ltd, the Sri Lankan biscuit and confectionery giant, told just-food today (14 August) that the company is eyeing expansion in the Indian market.

“India is an important market for us and it is becoming more so all the time. We currently have one biscuit factory located in India,” a spokesperson for the company commented. The company has established distribution bases to supply Indian regions, including New Delhi, the Punjab, Haryana, Mohali and Chennai.

The company manufactures popular brands in the region, including Munchee biscuits and Ritzbury chocolates. Ceylon Biscuit also recently acquired the Indian Bakeman brand.

The company hopes to become the third largest player in the Indian market, behind Britannia and Parle.

Ceylon is Sri Lanka’s largest biscuit and confectionery manufacturer, controlling approximately 54% of the market. The company exports its products to Europe, North America, Australasia, North Africa and China.
