Swedish grocery operator Axfood today (9 June) announced that some 50 Vi Retailers’ Association stores in Stockholm will join its Hemköp banner.

The move follows the Vi Retailers’ Association’s recommendation that its members sign individual chain agreements to join the Hemköp banner in late April.

Hemköp said that work to convert the approximately 50 Vi stores will begin from September, but the contract will become effective in January 2012.

This will strengthen Hemköp’s opportunities to build a larger, stronger and more distinctive chain – above all in the fast-growing Stockholm market,” said Hemköp president Ola Andersson.
