He will lead operations in Finland, the Baltics, Central Europe and the CIS countries, and will also be a member of Cloetta Fazer’s Group Management Team.

Lindblad has worked for Fazer Confectionery and Cloetta Fazer since 1992, and served as sales director at the Finnish organisation since May.

From 2 January he will succeed Jesper Åberg, who has been named managing director and CEO of Cloetta Fazer.

“Jesper Åberg has done an excellent job in managing the Finnish subsidiary and our position in the market is strong. Competition in the confectionery market has grown increasingly tough in the past few years and I am very pleased that Cloetta Fazer Confectionery’s new managing director has been recruited internally. Tom Lindblad has in-depth knowledge of the company and industry,” said company CEO Karsten Slotte.

Cloetta Fazer has a 40% market share in Finland, where the top-selling brands are Karl Fazer, Pantteri, Geisha, Ässät and Dumle.

In recent years, the company said it has grown steadily there despite stagnation in the total confectionery market.

In a separate announcement, the Nordic confectioner said it has reached an agreement to form a sales partnership with Premium Foods in Poland. Cloetta has signed a reseller agreement with the Polish distribution and marketing company from 1 January 2007.

Under the agreement, Premium Foods’ sales organisation will take over responsibility for Cloetta Fazer’s logistics, sales and distribution in Poland.

“Cloetta Fazer’s strategy is to focus on the group’s strongest brands. We will continue to market and sell our prioritised brands in the Polish market through collaboration with Premium Foods,” said Slotte.
