Atria, the Finland-based food group, has started talks to wind up a loss-making business in Sweden.

The company is looking to close its Lätta Måltider unit, which makes salads and sandwiches in Sweden.

Last year, Atria streamlined production and cut costs at the unit in a bid to improve efficiency. However, yesterday (2 April), Atria said last year’s actions had not brought “sufficient earnings improvements”.

Atria aims to close the business by July and has started negotiations with the 124 workers at Lätta Måltider. The business generated revenues of EUR25m (US$33.6m) in 2008.
