Construction concern NCC said the 8,400sq m plant, at Joenkoeping in southern Sweden, will be completed in 2008.
Some 130 staff will slice and package meat for Axfood’s Hemkoep and Willys 220 supermarkets around Sweden.
However, the processed meat will come from Axfood’s suppliers, not Danish Crown, which is one of the world’s largest pork suppliers and also runs several meat packing centres in Europe.
”Sweden is an important market for us and establishing cooperation is based on our experience with cutting and packing in other markets,” Danish Crown sales director Karsten Deibjerg Kristensen said.
