Analysts welcomed Emmi’s announcement that the Swiss dairy group is to buy Belgian distributor Haerten & Interimex.

The deal, for an undisclosed sum, will go through on 1 January. Emmi hopes the acquisition of Haerten & Interimex, which specialises in cheese distribution in Belgium and Luxembourg, will strengthen its position in the two markets.

Industry analyst James Amoroso from Swiss broker Helvea said Emmi needs to “maintain the momentum of its international expansion”.

“This acquisition forms another, albeit small brick in Emmi’s construction of its growing international business,” Amoroso said.
