Migros, the Swiss food manufacturing and retail group, is set to launch a third range of private-label products in its stores.


The line of 600 products will be introduced next month under the M-Classic brand, the company told just-food today (25 March).


In terms of price, the M-Classic products will sit between Migros’s entry-level M-Budget line and its upmarket Sélection portfolio.


A Migros spokesperson said the M-Classic range will take in mainstream products like bread and cakes but that the company had decided to keep other better-known retail brands in place.


“Brands like Candida, Actilife, which is our health brand and Milette, will remain,” she said.

Last month, posted an 8% rise in annual turnover for 2008. The company, which also has interests in chocolate and dairy production, said businesses throughout the group enjoyed rising sales in 2008.


The Migros spokesperson said the economic downturn had had little effect on food sales in Switzerland with local consumers instead spending less on big-tickets items like home furnishings. “We are not seeing consumers buy less,” she said.
