Farmers across Western Europe have stopped delivering milk to dairies and blockaded factories in protest at the low price of milk, which, they claim, does not cover production costs.
Milk price negotiations in Switzerland have been held between dairy companies and the Federation of Swiss Milk Producers (SMP), representing the farmers, since Sunday.
After what the SMP described as “intensive negotiations”, an agreement to increase milk prices by CHF0.06 ($0.06) per kilo of milk. The farmers had called for a raise of CHF0.10.
The SMP said the price rise would come into force from 1 July and remain binding for six months.

By GlobalDataSwiss farmers currently receive around CHF0.70 per litre from the main processors, including the likes of Emmi, Cremo, Elsa and Hochdorf Swissmilk, who process 80% of Swiss milk.
The SMP declined to comment further as just-food went to press.
