Swiss food giant Nestle is expanding its Singapore research and development centre.

The world’s largest food manufacturer said the investment would allow the site to have a “greater focus” on its “fastest-growing markets in the Asia-Pacific region”.

Nestle also said the centre will “take the global lead” for innovation for its Nescafe and Milo brands. Nestle is investing CHF4m (US$4.1m) in extending the site and hiring new R&D professionals. 

Innovation will include new formulations and formats as well as reformulation to boost the nutritional profile of existing products, Nestle said.  

Johannes Baensch, Nestle’s global head of R&D, emphasised the company is focused on improving nutrition through reformulation and NPD. “One of R&D Singapore’s main objectives is to ensure that nutrition and health are integral considerations in new product development.”

Speaking at the opening ceremony, he added: “The products developed here are tailored to meet local tastes, both in this region and in other parts of the world where they are sold.”
