Swiss convenience food firm Orior has revealed that its Fredag arm has acquired tofu maker Bernatur.

The deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, was announced yesterday (2 May), “with retospective effect from 1 April”, Orior said.

Bernatur, located in Mels in the Swiss canton of St Gallen, “is known for the excellent quality of its innovative niche products and its attractive product range,” Orior claimed.

“The company employs approximately ten people and has a production site in Mels (Canton St. Gallen), which will continue to be run by the former owner of Bernatur.”

Fredag, which makes fresh meat products and vegetarian lines, “already produces a wide variety of vegetarian meat substitute products and Bernatur will complement its portfolio ideally”, Orior added.
