The Swiss confectionery sector achieved a 6.3% rise in turnover in 2003 to a record high of CHF275m (US$216.0m), according to an industry group.

The Swiss bakery and confectionery industry association Biscosuisse said 2003 confectionery sales rose 5.7% to 23,427 tonnes. Sales for the local market slid 3.2% to 7,415 tonnes.
Exports rose 10.6% to CHF176m. The main markets were Germany, France and the US, accounting for 22.5%, 19.5% and 19% of sales respectively, reported the Swiss News Digest.
