UK-based convenience food maker Symington’s has promoted its chief operating officer, John Power, to the post of CEO.

Power replaces David Salkeld, who has served as chief executive at Symington’s since September 2007.

A spokesperson for Symington’s said the appointment has “immediate effect” and Power has already taken on the role of chief executive. The spokesperson added reasons for the management change have not been communicated.

Power had served as chief operating officer at Symington’s since February this year. Prior roles include operations and quality director at George Western Foods, the Australian unit of Associated British Foods. Power has also held various “director level” operations and supply chain roles at ABF in the UK, where he worked from March 2007 until he joined Symington’s.

Symington’s produces a variety of food products, from cup soups to pasta sauces, under brands including Mug Shot, Naked Noodle, Ainsley Harriott, Ragu and Chicken Tonight. The company also produces a number of products aimed at children produced under license, including Despicable Me, Pepper Pig and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
