The Food and Drug Administration has ordered its food watch agencies across Thailand to pull UHT milk products from shelves after finding that more than 11,000 unsweetened UHT milk cartons contained a liquid used to wash machines.
The local press reported that a problem with equipment in the production process at Friesland Foods Foremost (Thailand) meant sterilised water was put into the packages.

The sterilised water is pure and poses no health hazard, the manufacturer said. Milk had been found to contain water used to clean the machines. A total of 11,232 boxes from the manufacturing lot were contaminated with used water.
Secretary-general Pipat Yingser said the company would face a fine of THB50,000 (US$1,544) for making a “substandard” food product.
