The company, which operates the Tesco Lotus chain in Thailand, said the design of the store will conserve waste and water, reduce heat loss and improve air quality, reported Retail Week.

“We have spent a lot of time developing energy conservation measures in our Thai business, and this is the first store of its kind,” a company spokesman was quoted by Retail Week as saying.

The move is part of a drive to reduce energy usage amid the Thai government’s energy conservation programme. Due to higher oil prices, hypermarkets and department stores have been ordered to close early in order to reduce energy usage.
