A Thai food supplement maker has launched a record US$2.2m advertising campaign for its seaweed products.

The company, Advanced Spirulina Biotechnical Co, aims to triple sales with the campaign, which will be directed at its home market, Thailand.

The health supplements, made from spirulina seaweed, contain micro-sized algae that are high in amino acids and other nutrients. The company’s seaweed farms are to be expanded from 10,000 square metres to 40,000 square metres over the next six months in anticipation of booming demand for the supplements.

The Thai market for food supplements is estimated to be around US$88m a year with 40 registered manufacturers producing supplements that contain seaweed compounds.
