The new scheme will see one hundred successful applicants receiving a food stand with umbrella, as well as equipment such as rice cookers, pots, pans and utensils from the association. The vendors then just have to find somewhere legal to set up shop.

Prices and quality will be regulated – vendors will be required to keep prices at ten baht (US$0.23) a plate and they must use only high quality jasmine rice and number 4 eggs. They will also have to report back monthly to the Chicken Egg Producers, Merchants, and Exporters Association on their sales.

The association, which will not collect a percentage of sales, hopes the scheme will encourage more people to eat eggs.
