Shrimp farmers in eight US states want the measures brought against China, Vietnam, Thailand and several South American countries.

Thailand plans to counter the difficulties by finding out exactly which shipments are alleged to have damaged US shrimp farmers. Thailand’s commercial counsellor in the US will then work with Thai exporters to collect the necessary information with which the counsellor can negotiate with US officials.

In the first eight months of 2002, Thailand exported US$494m worth of frozen shrimps, the majority of which was destined for the US, reported Xinhua News Agency.
