Thailand’s ice cream market leader, Wall’s, has revealed an upcoming Bt50m (US$1.1m) launch for two new Solero products, designed to fit into a new category called “icerefreshment”.

Unilever Thai Holdings Co., the company that manufactures and distributes Wall’s brands, expects the Solero line to achieve sales worth about Bt400m this year.

Wall’s Thailand business unit director, Yol Phokasub, explained that the two new Solero products fall under the soft drinks and fruit juices segment in the fast growing sector and will be marketed to teenagers. Consumers will first encounter Solero green, lemon/lime flavoured ice balls packaged in a flip-lid cup and priced at Bt20 for an 85 gram cup. Next month, the market will see the addition of Solero Crush which combines pineapple chunks in an icicle. A 65g stick will be priced at Bt10.

Wall’s has been market leader in Thailand since 1989, reporting last year that it controls 40% of the local market with sales worth more than Bt2bn.
