German meat processor Tönnies has confirmed it is going to stop production at the Thomsen plant in Bad Bramstedt at the end of January.
Tönnies acquired pork processor Thomsen in March last year along with its two production sites in Bad Bramstedt and Kellinghusen. Together the plants processed 300,000 pigs and 28,000 cattle per year.

In an email to just-food yesterday (11 January), a spokesperson for Tönnies said though production at the Bad Bramstedt plant would be stopped, the plant would not be sold. Production at the Thomsen plant in Kellinghusen would be extended.
“We knew that over the medium-term producing at both Thomsen plants would not be efficient so we decided to go on producing at both plants in short term but concentrate long-term investments in Kellinghusen,” he added.
The move affects 31 employees at Bad Bramstedt.
“Some of these we hope to offer alternative workplaces,” the spokesperson added.
