A spokesperson for Tunnock declined to comment on the plans in detail, but told just-food an application had been submitted for consideration by local planning chiefs. Planners have yet to respond to the firm’s application, the spokesperson said.

According to a report in The Scotsman, Tunnock is proposing to invest “several million pounds” in increasing production space by 1,900 sq m across two floors. The paper said the additional space will house new equipment needed to expand production.

Tunnock was established in 1890 and the factory has been on the current site for more than 50 years.
