French retail giant Carrefour has expanded its operations in the Turkish market through the acquisition of local retailer Pinar Marketçilik.

“A transfer agreement has been signed by and between Pinar – the lessee and operator of 12 supermarkets located in Samsun – and our company for the transfer of leasing rights and operation of these stores,” a spokesperson for Carrefour told just-food today (16 January).

“The transfer procedures shall proceed after obtaining the necessary legal and administrative approvals,” the spokesperson added.

Carrefour operates 22 Carrefour hypermarkets, 125 Carrefour Express supermarkets and 623 Dia hard discount stores in Turkey.

The company declined to comment on the financial details of the agreement.
