The operation is a joint venture with Dubai World subsidiary Nakheel and Auchan, who will operate together under the HyperCorp banner, with the aim of expanding across the Gulf.
“This is the first time Auchan has been in the Middle East,” an Auchan spokesman told just-food from Paris, although he was unable to specify any further timetable for future Middle East store openings.
The 6,500 square metres store is in the Dragon Mart commercial centre in Dubai, with a previous statement from Nakheel Retail noting HyperCorp intended to develop the Auchan brand with five hypermarkets across Dubai.
Among these, the statement formerly said it planned sites in Great Mall Dubai in International City, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Village and Palm Deira.
