UK poultry supplier 2 Sisters Food Group has blamed consumers trading down for its plan to cut jobs at a site in the country.

The company said up to 95 staff could be affected by the proposals for the Letham facility, which the group bought in 2007.
“The downturn in the market has meant that consumers are buying more whole birds and trading down into economy line products,” a 2 Sisters spokesman told just-food today (30 June) “We need to restructure our business to reflect this and safeguard the remaining 140 jobs.”
The spokesman also blamed local authorities for the length of time taken to give the green light to the construction of chicken houses to meet changing demand.
