Discount retailer Aldi has scrapped plans for a regional distribution centre on the Isle of Sheppey.

The retailer was planning to build a 600,000 square foot office building and distribution centre at the new Neats Court business park. It exchanged contracts with the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) to construct the site in 2007.

A SEEDA spokesperson confirmed the move and said: “It is disappointing that Aldi is not able to develop its distribution facilities as planned, but SEEDA, together with its key partners such as Swale Borough Council and the Crown Estate, are committed to this important project and will continue to progress the Masterplan for the area.”

Aldi did not respond to calls for comment before this article went to press.
