A spokesperson for the online retailer has dismissed reports it is looking to roll out an online grocery service as “just speculation”.

The company told just-food today (4 February) that, as a business, Amazon “never talks about what it might do in the future” and declined to comment on whether it might consider the idea as an option at some stage.

Speaking to Sky News yesterday, however, Amazon UK boss Brian McBride said he currently has no such plans.

“To be quite frank I think it’s a bit of a speculative story,” he said. “We’ve got enough on our plate without diving into food.”
