Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) is to invest GBP20m (US$26.5m) in an upgrade of its Ellesmere abattoir in Shropshire.

The reconstruction of the facility, confirmed today (13 August), will almost double the size of the beef plant.

Steve Thompson, General Manager of ABP Ellesmere said work has started on the redevelopment of the site, which supplies to European retailers.

“This project … will deliver the most modern abattoir in the UK with industry leading standards in relation to animal welfare, environmental sustainability and production efficiency. We are delighted to be progressing this project which is a long term commitment to our farmer suppliers and will enable us to secure the long term future of abattoir jobs in Shropshire.”
