UK retailer Asda has announced changes to its management structure as part of its plans for 2012.
COO Judith McKenna said the changes are required for the business to grow and “allow the sharing of ideas”.

Craig Bonnar will become operations director for Scotland and Northern Ireland and as part of his new role will be responsible for ensuring the retailer takes into account political and trading agendas, the company said.
Martin Dawson will become operations director for England and Wales, where he will lead Asda’s largest division comprising 280 stores. Glenn Bowles will become managing director for the supermarkets division and Living format, while Mark Ibbotson will take the role of central retail director.
McKenna, who took the COO role in July, said: “What’s clear is that we have colleagues with an amazing depth of experience, capability and passion for our business. These are really important changes that will allow us to operate at our very best throughout 2012 and well into the future.”
Yesterday, Asda announced plans to open 24 stores, refurbish 43 outlets and revamp of its depot network. The moves, it claimed, would create 5,000 jobs.
