On 12 October, customers at the Wal-Mart-owned grocer will be able to pay for the jab at the checkout along with their groceries, and then move over to a dedicated area to fill out a pre-vaccination health questionnaire. If the nurse on duty is happy with the questionnaire, the jab will be given there and then.

The vaccination will cost £11.97 (US$18.73), which Asda claims undercuts general practitioners by 60%.

Consumers eligible for free flu vaccinations, notably senior citizens and people with underlying health problems, will not be able to get the jab at Asda for free. However, Asda is hoping that “Customers in these groups may prefer the convenience of a jab on-demand”.
