Own-label manufacturer Bakkavor has confirmed it is cutting jobs at subsidiary English Village Salads.
There will be 24 compulsory redundancies – a figure which could eventually double – from a total of 74 salaried employees at the company’s Selby and Newport sites following long-term customer Asda’s decision to source salads directly from growers.

A Bakkavor spokesman said: “Following the conclusion of the 90-day consultation with employees at English Village Salads, we can confirm that there will be 24 compulsory redundancies from a total of 74 salaried employees.
“We are continuing to work closely with weekly paid employees to identify alternative employment opportunities at other Bakkavor sites, and are aiming for the final number of weekly paid redundancies to be less than 50, a significant reduction on the original estimation at the start of this process.”
In June, when Asda announced its decision, Bakkavor said over 100 jobs at English Village Salads were under threat.

“We’ve worked hard to ensure the best possible outcome for our employees and we are grateful for the patience and understanding they have demonstrated throughout the consultation process.”
