Wilson, vice-president of IGD for the last two years, succeeds Justin King, chief executive of Sainsbury’s. As part of his role, Wilson will be required to chair IGD’s industry leaders’ forum, the Policy Issues Council (PIC).

Both the president and vice-president will serve for two years.

Joanne Denney-Finch, chief executive of IGD, said: “Charles has been a long-term supporter of key IGD initiatives and in particular our work to reduce HGV miles on the British roads. He will be an inspirational president. Fiona has had a long association with IGD, not least as a former trustee. She is passionate about the food and grocery industry and we are delighted that she has become our vice-president, supporting Charles.”
