A £7m-£8m (US$9.9m-US$11.3m) sponsorship deal with UK confectioner Cadbury Trebor Bassett has boosted morale among the Manchester organisers of the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

There have been concerns that Manchester cannot afford to host the games and debts will remain with the city after it is staged next year. The organising body has been accused of underestimating costs and overestimating revenues.
